The Charlotte Pride Band (CPB) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and respectful musical community. As a member, you play a critical role in upholding the values and reputation of the organization. This Code of Conduct outlines expectations for member behavior, attendance, and representation, as well as the mission and vision that guide our band’s purpose.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Charlotte Pride Band is to provide an open, inviting environment for musicians of all ability levels while promoting the value and respect of LGBTQIA+ people in the Charlotte metropolitan area through quality musical performances.

Vision Statement

We believe that through music, any community can be brought together. We provide high quality performances for the enjoyment and support of our community at large so that one day, we all will live in a diverse, supportive community that is welcoming to everyone.

Attendance Expectations

  • Members are expected to attend rehearsals, performances, concerts and performance run throughs (dress rehearsals).

  • Members should notify the Membership Director or Section Liaison in advance if they cannot attend a rehearsal or performance. This can be done by emailing the date of absence to Attendance@CharlottePrideBand.org. Absences reported by members are considered “excused” absences.

  • Excessive unexcused absences, more than 3, may result in the member not being allowed to perform in the current cycle.

  • Excessive excused absences, more than 5, may result in the member not being allowed to perform in the current cycle.

  • Members are required to attend at minimum 1 performance run through which 2 are held before a concert date. Failure to attend the required minimum will result in the member not being allowed to perform in the current cycle.

  • In failure to meet attendance expectations, the Membership Director or appointed Director will reach out to the member by email. The Director and member will review attendance and discuss participation in the current cycle.

  • The board understands that members are volunteers and circumstances may change a member's ability to attend rehearsals. Should a member require an accommodation from the attendance expectations they are to email Attendance@CharlottePrideBand.org.

Ethical Treatment of Other Members

The Charlotte Pride Band values respect, collaboration, and camaraderie. All members are expected to:

  • Treat one another with dignity, kindness, and fairness, regardless of differences in opinion, background, or identity.

  • Refrain from discriminatory, harassing, or harmful behavior, including but not limited to language or actions based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, or other protected characteristics.

  • Foster a welcoming environment where all members feel supported and valued for their contributions

Representation Outside of Band Activities

As ambassadors of the Charlotte Pride Band, members are expected to uphold our values of inclusion, pride, and community.

  • Actions that significantly harm the band’s reputation, create an unsafe environment, or conflict with our mission may result in disciplinary action, including removal from the band.

Commitment to the Mission and Vision

Members should embody the mission and vision of the Charlotte Pride Band by:

  • Actively supporting and promoting the band’s purpose to create an inclusive space for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies through music.

  • Demonstrating pride in the diversity of the band and advocating for visibility and unity within the broader community.

  • Striving for excellence in musicianship while fostering a spirit of collaboration and fun.

Reporting Instances

The Charlotte Pride Band is committed to addressing concerns or violations of this Code of Conduct in a fair and confidential manner.

  • Members who witness or experience violations of the Code of Conduct are encouraged to report the matter promptly to a member of the Board of Operational Directors.

  • Reports can be made verbally or in writing and should include details of the incident, including date, time, and individuals involved.

  • Retaliation against individuals who report concerns in good faith is strictly prohibited

Judicial System and Accountability

The Board of Directors and Judicial Board oversees a fair and transparent judicial system to address violations of the Code of Conduct.

Upon receiving a report of misconduct, the Judicial Board will review the matter, gather relevant information, and, if necessary, interview involved parties.

  • The Judicial Board will determine appropriate action, which may include mediation, written warnings, suspension, or removal from the band, depending on the severity of the violation.

  • Members will have the opportunity to present their perspective during the review process.

  • The Judicial Board will be composed of three Board Directors selected at random through blind drawing of names. Each incident will have a separate Judicial Board and hold their own hearing. Final resolutions will be presented to the Charlotte Pride Band Board for adoption. Adopted resolutions will be made active and effective immediately.

Acknowledgement

By participating in the Charlotte Pride Band, members agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and to contribute to the positive, inclusive, and respectful culture of the organization. Any concerns or violations of this code should be reported to the band’s leadership for review and resolution.
